Personal Review Castle in the Sky

Castle in the Sky begins with a young girl, Sheeta, falling from an aircraft that has been taken by hijackers. But, she doesn’t really fall, she floats down. As she comes to earth, an engineer’s apprentice, Pazu, finds her…

And the adventure begins.

Sheeta has a crystal that connects her to the legendary land the Floating Island of Llaputaaputa. Pazu has heard stories about Laputa from his father, and he wants to help her find her way before her evil Uncle Muska uses the power of the crystal to take over the World.

Throw in some Sky Pirates, and it’s quite a rollicking adventure tale.

There is a steam punk feel to this movie… air ships, steam trains and amazing machinery fill the world. And on the Floating Island, you will meet the gentle beings who guard the Castle.

(On a side note… Castle in the Sky gives more than a nod to Jonathan Swift and Gulliver’s Travels. In part 3 of the travels, Gulliver arrived on Laputa, the floating island.)

This movie is great for ages 8 and up…. it’s a great story with fabulous animation.
